Thank you so much for these! Especially “If you grew up with money stop being weird about it.” I needed to read this - we’re extremely lucky and very financially comfortable but did not come from families that were the same so navigating this sometimes feels hard. Especially since we made the decision to send out girls to our local public secondary school (for a myriad of patriarchal, anti capitalist reasons lol but mainly because it’s a great school!) and their friend have started calling them “rich” and asking where our helipad is (we live in a normal suburban home). While it doesn’t bother my kids it feels very jarring to me. Our goal has always to be grateful, kind and generous as a family but I’ve been struggling with how to do this while worrying about what others might think and how the might judge. But this short article has reminded me to just suck it up and be me, embrace it and own it!

Love these recommendations, would happily watch/read/listen to anything you recommend honestly ! Keep pushing with ACOTAR - I devoured this entire series last year in the space of 2 months (after not being a big fantasy fan) and fell in love with it ! Also highly recommend any of Sophie Green’s books, they all often centre around Australian women from all walks of life who end up in the same place and form beautiful friendships - it shows the power of female friendships and are lovely reads!

You don’t have to read the book first if you don’t want to (Caste by Isabel Wilkerson), but do go and see the movie based on it, “Origin”, when it comes out in a couple of weeks. Great investigation into how different societies have been segmented, and the power balances that result even when the segmentation is notionally delegitimised. Plenty of theories and concepts to think about when considering the many different stratifications we have in Australian society.

Love this list! A book - prophet song (the booker winner for this year!) by Paul lynch. I can’t explain the magic of this book; the writing style and content are both enthralling, and it’s a perfect blend of politics and the personal. And a recipe! Made a huge batch of this palaak paneer today, I just substitute halloumi for paneer and use frozen spinach, it’s always SO delicious https://www.cookwithmanali.com/palak-paneer/#wprm-recipe-container-36315

Dear Hannah,

Thank you.

I’m into a few of what you recommend.

Here is my recommendation:

Reas the boo To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.

Read it and then rad it again. And if you’ve already read it - read it again and again.

I promise every time you read this book another nuance will slap you in the face.

Yesterday’s world is really no different to today’s world - it’s just a different platform.

If you can’t read a book… find a fire like this and sit around that. There is no finer therapy for the mind.

I inhaled the Rachel Incident. It’s great. I’m also listening to who framed Amber. It’s great.

Books: The queen is dead by Stan Grant, The Dreaming Path by Paul Callaghan, Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus. Pod: Rethink - Adam Grant (and yes, Imperfects is the best ever). TV: Severance. Also loving Ted Lasso which I’m half way through.

I was never a podcast person until I discovered Maintenance Phase and If Books Could Kill. Wildly intelligent hosts that are equally funny and easy to listen to

Thought it was Thursday, had chicken at lunch. Remembered it was Good Friday, now grappling with my non-practising Catholic guilt 🫤 Weird how things from childhood stick around 😆 Fish n Chips for dinner now 😋
